Overview
Let’s make one thing clear from the start… there is no shame in asking your guest to leave a nice review. The hard part is tastefully asking for it, especially if there was an issue during their stay or they damaged your rental unit. The review request should contain a statement of gratitude towards the guest, highlight what you’re looking for, and offer them a chance to communicate privately if something didn’t go as planned. It’s a message that can be hard to get right, but when it works, the reviews will flow in.
The formula
First
First, thank the guest for choosing your listing. They selected your space over the hundreds of other options. Make them feel appreciated by displaying your gratitude for that choice. Don’t forget to personalize your message using merge tags.
Second
Second, ask for a review. It’s why you’re sending this message, so get to it and tell them what you want. Tell them you’ll leave one in return so they feel like a part of the Airbnb community. Highlight that the review can be brief and won’t take too much of their valuable time. I like to use the phrase “5-Star” in my review request because it primes the guest on what we’re looking for… a 5-Star review!
Third
Finally, let them know that they can reach out privately if something didn’t go as planned during their stay. Maybe their hot water was out and they didn’t tell you. The last thing you want is for that to come out in a negative review without you having the opportunity to remedy the situation.
The Airbnb review request template below is an example of what I use for our beach studios in Santa Barbara. It’s quick and effective in promoting a stream of positive feedback.

Thanks again for choosing to support our family-owned property. I hope you had a great time here and enjoyed your visit to Santa Barbara.
We would love it if you could take 2 minutes this afternoon to leave us a quick review, which goes a long way to show other travelers how we provide authentic Santa Barbara hospitality. Of course, we will leave you one in return.
Our goal is to provide a 5-star Airbnb experience. If there were any issues during your stay, please let me know as we value your feedback and it helps us grow as hosts.
