Superhosts: The best in hospitality
What is a Superhost on Airbnb? The Superhost designation is a status given to the best hosts who consistently provide exceptional experiences for their guests. These top-tier performers get elevated placement in the search results and a designated filter to highlight their listings. Becoming a Superhost can provide a number of benefits for both hosts and guests, so it’s important to understand the metrics that will get you there.
Criteria
Every three months, Airbnb hosts are reviewed on four criteria – overall rating, number of stays, cancelation rate, and response rate. Superhosts must have the following:
- An overall rating of at least 4.8 out of 5 – this rating looks at the past 365 days of reviews, based on the date the guest left a review, not the date the guest checked out
- At least 10 total stays – For long-term stays, complete 3 reservations that total at least 100 nights.
- Less than a 1% cancelation rate – 1 cancellation per 100 reservations or lower, with exceptions made for those that fall under the Extenuating Circumstances policy. Read more about Airbnb cancel policies.
- At least a 90% response rate – Don’t leave guests hanging. Make sure to respond quickly to keep up your response rate.
Filter the best
Anyone can list a space on Airbnb, but this designation separates professional hosts from the average ones. As a traveler, I always filter the search result to only display listings from Superhosts so I know I’m going to get the best possible experience. They also enjoy increased visibility on the platform, and their listings are often featured more prominently in search results by the Airbnb algorithm.
Superhost support
Superhosts also receive premium support from Airbnb, which can help resolve any issues or concerns more quickly. There’s a dedicated support button and wait time is usually only a few minutes to get through to a human on their support team. That’s priceless if you’re dealing with an upset guest.
Recap
Maintaining Superhost status on Airbnb is key to the success of your rental. It’s not absolutely necessary, but it helps ensure better organic placement in the pool of listings and provides a search filter to only show the top-performing hosts.
